travel requirements to mexico ?

I dont need my passport for a day visit 5 min from border do I

Need for a passport has nothng to do with how long you go to Mexico for. The requirements state that if you are flying to and from Mexico, you must have a passport. If you drive, for now, you just need a birth certificate and picture I.D. After next January, you must have a passport for any type of travel to and from Mexico.
