I have a really good friend who is Costa Rican. I've known him for about 15 years. We have been through good and bad times and I love him so much. He is going through a bad time right now. Lack of money. I was thinking of giving him about 100 dollars in a card. But he would read the card after I left. I'm just wondering if this would offend him? I know some people don't like to take money and are very independent. Do you think that this would offend him? I've asked him several times if he needed help and he always says he's fine. But really he's not doing fine. Let me know what you think. Thanks for your time.

not to be mean but some Latins are very defensive about ppl thinking they don't have money esp. white ppl and esp. ESP. white Americans! But if you guys are good friends then he shouldn't be offended. Maybe he's too ashamed to ask for help. I would give it to him and if he gets mad about it, then that would show how ungrateful and an idiot he is...who would turn down a hundred dollars if theyre struggling financially? I mean that's just stupid. But i know some cultures consider that offensive to accept money offerings so maybe you could give him a gift card or a few gift cards for some superstores or restaurants or some clothing stores.Or maybe you could give him one of those credit gift cards---they're a credit card but he doesn't have to pay them off bc they are really a gift card but can be used anywhere that accepts credit cards.
