What Do You Think of the American Banana Wars in The Carribbean and Central America?

Was it Colonialism? Was it worth keeping the price of Bananas down?

It wasn't about keeping the price of that banana down. The first war was started in Guatemala because Arbenez wanted to redistribute land to the indigenous and his gov't had a slight socialist leaning. However, the United Fruit Company was owned by Andrew Dulles whose brother just happened to be in charge of the CIA. The US sponsored a coup that led to 40+ years of civil war and horrendous genocide. It was imperialism..

Well sure it was imperialism but at least one could argue that the area was within our sphere of influence and that adverse events there could directly affect us. We wouldn't want, for instance, violent anarchy on our southern borders or on nearby outlying islands, or threatening the Panama Canal.

What the hell we are doing by remaining in Afghanistan and 140 other countries at the moment defies explanation, at least to me.
