Default Why don't people see people of African decent in South and Central America as black just like in America?

Christina Milian, Zoe Saldana, Rick Gonzalez, Rosie Perez, Merlin Santana, Sammy Sosa etc... are all of African descent but it seems that most people just label them as Hispanic or Latino and not black. Why? But mixed american blacks like Halle and Alicia keys etc... I always called black.

it really doesn't matter that much.

we're all human, and should be treating each other better. that's what counts.

Most people dont even realize that there are Africans in central and south america. even mexico.

Im not sure why the government counts hispanic as race, but that his how it is done so that is how people think.

Hispanic/Latino is an ethnicitiy so even though they may call themselves that we all know that they are black; their ethnicity is Latino but their race is black

Race isn't really important for latinos. Latinos don't have the same racial views as americans, as if for ex: if your mixed white and black, that doesn't really make you black or white it makes you a mulatto or mixed etc, white and native american is mestizo and so on. Those people you mentioned, most of them are mixed. But it's not like hispanic/latino people deny their race. we just don't have the same views in race as americans do. hispanic people can be black, asian, amerindian, white, pacific, whatever.

because culturally they are latino or whatever they prefer to be called. People of African decent in Panama dont speak english like people of African decent in the US. We have different foods, different religious practices, different histories, different economic and political situations. While we did originate from the same land, our cultures are unique and quite different, and I think it is offensive to label someone in a manner that does not allow them to represent who they are. Also, Halle and Alicia were born in the US, they are culturally American. Sammy Sosa was born in the Dominican Republic, he is culturally Dominican, not black American. Christina Milian, born in the US, however to Cuban Parents, she is culturally American and Cuban if thats the way her parents raised her.

We're alike in so many ways, but people dont want to see the truth, maybe its the fact that because we live in the U.S. under the White Man. When it comes to under the terms of Latina and Latino, yes they are of African descent, and that is because when the slaves were brought over here from Africa a long time ago, some were taken over to Cuba, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic..etc...which led to the Africans, and Latino/Latina people to reproduce together, and this is how you get descents. I believe that no matter what race you are, you at least have a little bit of everything. If you dont this, well every human being has roots that go all the way back to Africa. This has been experimented. Now you know. All the countries that are present at this day use to be combined together, and somehow became separated over time.
