My girlfriend and I are going to Mexico in early November. We have planned to cross half the country : from Mexico to Puebla, to Oaxaca, to Chiapas, to Merida, to Cancun. How easy is it to travel with buses and is it cheap ? Do you know where I can take the bus in each of these cities ? How much does it cost ?
Please help me out. Serious replies only. Thank you for your answers, Nicolas, Brussels, Belgium. |

Hi Nicolas, Sounds as if you have quite a trip planned. To answer your question it is very easy and inexpensive to travel by bus in Mexico. They are also safe, contrary to some of the horror stories that tourists often hear.I am not implying that these things have never happened but I have never seen it and I have traveled on buses in Mexico for years so relax and have a good time.
The bus terminals in the larger cities are usually centrally located and resemble airport terminals with different ticket counters for each bus company. In Mexico city there are four terminals for departures North South East and West .There is also a smaller terminal at the airport with limited departures to selected tourist cities. In the smaller cities there may not be a terminal and they will load and unload right on the street or perhaps in a vacant lot.You have to ask in the smaller places but anyone who lives there will usually know where it is and can direct you. Mexico to Puebla 100P Puebla to Oaxaca 225P Oaxaca to Chiapas 325P Chiapas to Merida 425P Merida to Cancun 225P **These prices fluctuate but they should be within a few pesos either way. I can give you the bus terminal locations in each of those places or answer any of your other travel questions if you'll email me. If I don't hear from you ,have a great trip... .gypsy |
