What documents does a US citizen need to travel to Mexico? ?

Ok i want to go to Mexico but my husband doesn't have a passport, is it required to travel by land? What documents does he need to travel?

If you fly to Mexico, a passport is required. If you drive to Mexico, you may use a photo I.D. and birth certificate until June 1, 2009...then passports will be required for land travel too. See 1st site to read the law. See 2nd site to get all passport application info.
