There are still trains running in Mexico, but they are all freight trains even though it's hard to tell, what with all the illegals from Honduras, Guatemala and Southern Mexico riding on top of and hanging onto all the freight cars on the north bound trains.

1st Class Bus is the ONLY way to travel around Mexico... for comfort, convenience, cost and safety, they can't be beaten

Yes you are correct - with one exception. There is a train running through Copper Canyon.

The bus system now in Mexico is fantastic...nothing like Greyhound in the U.S. Buses are always new, gorgeous, much roomier than Greyhound, super clean, and have courteous drivers. There is 1st class...which is lovely, and luxury class for just a bit more, that is fantastic. You should try them. There are tons of routes and many runs every day. Some companies have great websites, others don't. There are 4 giant bus stations in Mexico City that are the "hub" of the country -wide system. See sites below for more info.

Charlie is right. Take a first class or Primo bus and travel in style. Big cushy seats that recline, cheesy movies and bathrooms on board. Great way to travel!
