i work in the travel industry so u would bring your valid passport, if you dont have your passport, you would bring two piece of government ID, one should be your birth certificate and the other should be a photo ID. if ur canadian, it should be a canadian birth certificate and a driver license. if ur american, best bet is to bring a valid passport instead. either that if you don't believe me, check the Mexican consulate.

Your passport is your BEST form of I.d. and required if you are FLYING to Mexico. But you should bring other I.D, too, just in case you lose your passport. It happens! I have known people who lost their passport and had no other form of I.D. to show at the embassy when they went to get another passport. Also wise to carry a paper copy of your passport and have passport number written somewhere. You do not HAVE to have other I.D., but is is wise.
