Pepto Bismol, Immodium, bring it all. Your stomach will be screaming for assistance as soon as you eat something there.

many areas do not have safe drinking water. or many baby supplies. be prepared for all the child's supplies for the entire trip unless your going to an upscale international motel./hotel or you have checked the city/ hotel has good water and nearby supplies.
the tourist cities of course have more but still check with a travel agent or AAA.
check with the border patrol or consulate more id may be required fro you both these days.

To go to Mexico, and return to the US, you need "proof of US citizenship". That can be a passport or your ORIGINAL birth certificate or a certified copy with a raised seal and a photo ID. I assume that what you meant by California ID, which by the way is NOT proof of citizenship, its just proof of who you are. If you are a woman now married, you must bring a certified copy of your Marriage License, to show the authorities how your birth certificate name was changed to your California ID name.

The kicker when taking a child into Mexico is that you must carry a notarized letter from the missing parent stating that you are allowed to take the child into Mexico. This is VERY important and watched by authorities on both sides of the border. Make the letter as specific as possible. If the other parent is deceased, you will need a certified copy of the Death Certificate. That's just the way it is!

Do not need a visa. However, it will be required to present one of the following documents at the airport or port of entry into Mexico:

Valid United States Passport;
Original Birth Certificate and photo official identification (i.e., driver's license);
Certified copy of Certificate of Naturalization and photo official identification (i.e., driver's license);
Voter's Registration Card with photo official identification;
Notarized Affidavit of Birth Facts and a official identification

and what part of mexico u go?

WELL A U.S. PASSPORT IS VERY MUCH RECOMENDED AND NOT THAT EXPENSIVE. I REALLY DO RECOMEND THE PASSPORT ALOT BECAUSE THERE'S ALOT OF BENEFITS BEING A U.S.CITIZEN AND PROVING IT. I KNOW BY EXPIERENCE!!!!

NOW DAYS, THE LAWS HAVE CHANGED. I REALLY RECOMEND THAT YOU CALL THE MEXICAN EMBASSY FOR THIS ONE. A TRAVEL AGENT CAN HELP. BUT WITH ALL THE PROBLEMS MEXICO HAS RIGHT NOW, I REALLY RECOMEND THE AMERICAN PASSPORTS.
OUT OF THAT, YOUR BIRTH CERFICATE AND OF YOUR CHILD PLUS A CERTIFIED LETTER FROM CHILD'S PARENT IS NEEDED AS WELL THAT SAYS YOU HAVE PERMISSION TO TAKE THE KID WITH CONSENT. I KNOW IT SOUNDS ALOT OF BULL, BUT IT IS NECESARRY. WITH CHILD ABDUCTIONS TRIPLED IN SO MANY YEARS, IT IS NEEDED.
SO PLEASE FOR PEACE OF MIND, TAKE THE PASSPORTS, YOU CAN GET THEM IN HOURS IF NEED BE. A FAMILY MEMBER WAS GOING TO MEXICO D.F. AND NEEDED HIS PASSPORT. WELL HE WENT TO L.A. CA. TO THE PASSPORT CENTER one of many thruout the u.s. AND GOT IT IN UNDER 4 HOURS. HE WAS OFF TO MEXICO CITY 2 HOURS LATER.
SO BE SAFE, TAKE CARE AND PLEASE DO THIS CAREFULLY. I KNOW IT'S ALOT OF MONEY BUT IT IS THE SAFEST WAY TO DO IT AS WELL.
