Is it safe to travel to Mexico ?

Is it safe to travel to Puerto Vallarta, Cancun (area), or Alcapulco right now in May 2008. I have heard some shadey things are going on such as rapes, kidnappings, and police asking for payoffs.

Yeah, just be smart. Don't get drunk and lose your common sense.

It is very safe to travel to a tourist destination in Mexico. Period.

Puerto Vallarta is considered one of the safest cities in the world and also it is the friendliest city in the world. You can check what I am saying in internet.

Cancun is also another favorite destination for tourists from all over the world.

Mexico city is not very safe, like any other big city in the world. Mexico city is aprox 20 million people.

Puerto Vallarta is aprox. 250.000 people.

It's safer in Puerto Vallarta, Cancun and Alcapulco than all most any large American city.

Well In fact, I live near of puerto vallarta, I live in the city of Guadalajara, and puerto vallarta is 3 hours far of guadalajara, Is commun for me go to puerto vallarta, and if I can help with you cuestion, I can tell you, that puerto vallarta is not a place unsafe, for turist from USA because in puerto vallarta have the thinking of the american people need to be treat good, for return.

In fact, most of the place of vallarta treat better the american people than mexican people, and that is because, in vallarta go a lot of american people, I can tell you that because I live near of vallarta, and I think is not unsafe, and on this matter of cancun, when I went to cancun I saw, a lot of american people, I can tell you that is more american people who travel to cancun than mexican people, I don't know why, but most of the people who are of vacation in cancun are american, And I've never listened any about things that you say about rapes, and kindnappigs, In cancun or puerto vallarta, and less about american people happen than kind of thing that you say, but, If you wanna know which is the place unsafe of all mexico, I can tell you, never travel to DF, is better go to, Guadalajara city or Monterrey city, because DF in mexico is a chaos, well, I hope to help you, and I hope that you can understand me, in my writing; because I don't know if my writting is good.
