Default Is it possable to travel to and from Mexico without a passport?

That passport law starts on the 1st of this year. I'm going on a study abroad program for 3 weeks in southern mexico. My passport hasent came in the mail yet. The school im going with is saying "no passport, no go". I am going to be out hundreds of dollars if my passport doesnt come in the mail within 5 days. What should I do?

In a post 9/11 world you will need a passport.

Most countries have a passport tracking option on the Immigration website. I'm not sure if America has this option. Worth looking into though.

Unfortunately, without a passport, you are not going anywhere. I wish you all the best but it doesn't look good trying to get people to hurry this close to Christmas.

Good luck.

The passport requirement starts on Jan. 23, so you can GO to Mexico without a passport, but if you are returning after the 23rd of Jan. you need one to return. Did you order your passport "expedited"? You can go to your local post office (there are passport offices in the post offices) and ask them to run a check on it. If it has not been mailed yet, you may be able to pay the extra fee and get it mailed overnight. Also, go to the website below to read all regulations for yourself.

Unfortunately looks like the "wheels are already turning" on the US Passport process and nothing I know can be done to speed things up right now. Probably should have sent off for the PP a little sooner or asked for Expedited service. I got my last PP in about 4 days, but I probably got lucky and I also squeezed every advantage I could out of the system. (I went to a post office and had them process all the paperwork and check my ID, then they sealed everything in an envelope and I handed it off to a courier that hand-delivered it to the Houston Passport Agency) At this point I would wait for my PP to arrive and if possible take a separate flight to Mexico and meet up with your group already there. A few days late is better than missing the whole trip!
