depends on how much you are willing to spend. Mexico can get expensive. between the flight and where you are willing to stay. Mexico is also a foreign country so that brings along hassles of passports, customs, and money exchange. don't get me wrong Mexico has some of the best vacation spots for the money. I've been many times. but i started going down to pr about four years ago and i go back every year. if you can fly jetblue they have the best deals. from NYC i get round trips for $99 each way and best of all its still within the US. no need for a passport, customs, or money exchange. you can check out most of the island too. 3 hour car drive from east to west coast. English is well understood throughout PR. beaches are beautiful. there are rain forests. and small islands that you can day trip to just off the coast. you can go 5 star hotel or rent a villa and pretend you are at home. i cant divulge all my secrets of PR, but if you go, Locals are more then happy (most of the time) to let you in on little secrets. there have been times i decided on Wednesday to fly to PR on Fri for a little extended weekend at the same cost as going out in NYC for dinner and bars. might i add the length of the flight (of course depending on where your flying from) is a breeze 3 hours from JFK. so my pick obviously Puerto Rico. there are many websites you can check out too. this is a good one http://www.casagranderincon.com/ friends of mine own this place, which they just finished building this summer. its a great place to go if you want to relax or can bring a group to cut down the cost.

i have been to both. and in my opinion PUERTO RICO wins hands down, for many reasons.
1. if you are traveling from the states PUERTO RICO, offers the cheaper vacation of the 2 choices. if you travel off season (september or october) like i do you will save a ton of $$. 2 if you are traveling from the states and are a us citizen you will never have to go thru customs hence making traveling a joy and much quicker.. off the plane and grab your luggage..and you're off !!! 3. PUERTO RICO offers many different kinds of vacation opportunities on one island. it has so much more than just SAN JUAN. you will find everything from lush rain forests to deserted beaches. horseback ringing to kite-surfing... and so on. do some research and you will be pleasantly surprised. contact me on my 360 page should you have any questions...you can also find my PR pics there. here are some great sites to start your research www.gotopuertorico.com www.elyunque.com www.rincon.org www.islaeculebra.com www.isla-vieques.com www.tripadvisor.com (puerto rico forums) happy planning...doda |
