i am pretty sure you dont. i live in central texas and a lot of friends travel to mexico and they have never mentioned they needed a passport.

In 2006 no but as of 2007 a passport will be required in Mexico and Canada as well as the Carribean.

It depends on your citizenship. If you are a US national you don't need one now. If you are a resident of the US and a citizen of another country you should check ... most good travel agencies should be able to help you, if not, get in touch with your embassy or consulate.
