Traveling to Cancun Mexico with prescription meds?

I have prescription meds for ADHD and depression. I read to only take what is needed for your stay and have them in the original bottle. I wanted to know if they would give me any problems when going through customs. Is this something I should put in my checked luggage or my carry on. I worried that my luggage might get lost and then I would be without my meds. Thanks for any helpful answers.
