I am a nanny and my boss just asked me yesterday if I would be willing to travel with her family to Mexico for their fishing trip so I could watch the kids. I would love to go but fear I do not have the proper identification to fly into Mexico. I have a passport but lost it years ago and never had it replaced. I have not seen my birth certificate in many years either. All I have is a driver's license. I have read on some websites that a D.L. is sufficient but on others they say you need a D.L. and a birth certificate together. The problem is that we are leaving a week from today and I don't know if that will be enough time to get my birth certificate replaced, especially in California where average wait time is 30 days. If anyone has any information or suggestions, I would be much obliged.

You could have a lot of difficulty returning to the states without the birth certificate. Do you live in, or can you drive to the county where you ere born and go to the office of vital statistics to pick up a birth certificate in person? If so, you could call them and ask if they could have one for you on the same day. If you will be returning before Jan. 23, then you could go. Otherwise, looks like no way.
