I want to go traveling to beaches in the Caribbean. Is it really unsafe to get a tan?

I love sunbathing and really enjoy having a healthy tan - are there ways to absolutely avoid the dangers of skin cancer?
I want to be a beach comber for a month or two

This whole skin cancer thing is ridiculous and only really applies to people that sunbathe on a regular basis. Enjoy the Carribean!! It is beautiful. Just make sure to wear an adequate UVA/UVB sunscreen!
