Default I want to go traveling to beaches in the Caribbean. Is it really unsafe to get a tan?

I love sunbathing and really enjoy having a healthy tan - are there ways to absolutely avoid the dangers of skin cancer?
I want to be a beach comber for a month or two

Thanks in advance

For the first few days use sunscreen, just so that your body can get used to the sun, then after that, use a high sp tanning oil. Then hopefully, that you should get you a tan. I'm very pale, and hardly ever tan, but thats what I do to get a tan, and it turns out lovely too!

And you can get a tan with sunscreen on. My mum gets a tan all the time whiles using sunscreen.

It is unsafe to stay out it the sun for long periods of time, but just take it in moderation and I'm sure you'll be fine!

You know, I love fried foods and red meat. I very much enjoyed cigarette smoking. I tanned when I was young.

Being an adult means being responsible for your well-being. This means accepting that we can't always do what we want and what feels good/tastes good/whatever, if the risk is too great. It doesn't just hit when you're in your 80s ... a good friend of mine has malignant melanoma and he's in his early 50s. It's hard when you know the probable cause of your death when you're that young ....

I don't mean to lecture, but when you've been diagnosed with cancer, your tolerance for self-indulgent self-destructive behavior drops a bit.

MD cancer specialist answer
I like to get a tan also. It's a relative risk. Smoking is "really unsafe." Riding in automobiles is unsafe. Depends what you mean by really unsafe.

Repeated severe sunburns are more risky than a careful sensible slow tanning process. Enjoy your trip and be careful as you hopefully are when you drive.
