NO!!! I have cruised all over the Caribbean and very rarely do you even need your passport when you get off at islands. All of the cruise lines issue you a cruise card when you check in at the pier and that is your pass to get off and back on the ship in ports. You DO NOT even need to take your passport with you. The cruise lines record your passport information and give each country/island a list (manifest) with all of the passengers' names and passport and/or citizenship information. So after you board the ship you can put the passport away in your cabin safe until its time to get off the ship at the end of the cruise.
Its the same when you cruise most other places too. I have cruised all over and only have passport stamps from 3 or 4 countries.
