For a guy, sure, no problem. I've done it many times.
There's tons of cheap guest houses ($14-$20/night) around. Maybe not the Ritz, but nice clean rooms with a/c and hot showers. The best way to save money is to take advantage of local cuisine. Some find the food on the streets a little to adventurous but I like to eat one or two meals there per day. You can get a bowel of rice with some kind of curry, or minced meat on top for less than $1.00. If the street food isn't for you can find some good cheap food at food courts at some of the malls. Transportation is also cheap. Most taxi rides will only cost about $2.00. The Sky-Train is a great way to get around. It's clean, efficient and most rides are less then $1.00. Buy your beer from 7/11 and should be fine. Good Luck p.s. if you're there for girls, this budget goes out the window. |

Barely, you can stay in cheap hostels and guesthouses for $10 a day, eat for as little as $1.00 a meal from food carts and street stalls and traveling around by bus can very inexpensive. This should leave you enough for for a few beers and a few cheap dates once in awhile, although most dates will eat up your daily budget. You can do it, but you'll have a lot more fun, do a lot more things and eat and stay at better places with a bigger daily budget.

$40 is just enough for your little fun, but what about a place to stay and eat. You can rent some 1/2 star hotel room, eat street food each meal (which isn't bad) don't use commerical transportation then maybe your make it and have enough left over for a beer.

Thailand will probably be cheaper than the Philippines and Vietnam. You would have to make a border run every 30 days to stay for 3 months or get a visa you pay for. You would have to budget for your cheap bus ride to the border if necessary.
There are hotels in smaller cities (like Pattaya) where you can get an air conditioned room starting around 400-500 baht. (Christmas and New Years maybe a little higher priced.) These rooms will probably have a small refrigerator, TV, private toilet and hot water. Fan only rooms even cheaper. In Pattaya "all you can eat" breakfast buffets start around 110 baht. Lots of good supermarkets that you can use for picking up some groceries. Yeah, you can do it but a little more money would make your life a little more enjoyable. I have friends that have lived in Pattaya for over 8 years, most of the time their budget has been under $1000 a month. Good luck |

I think you can certainly do it - - but, might it not be a good bit more fun if you reduced the number of days and budgeted a bit fewer bucks - - I live here but when I go up to CM for a couple of days, it might not cost me $40 for a day - - decent room $15 - - if I scrimp on food I could probably eat for $5 a day which would leave some room for fun on your budget - - enjoy - -

I can do it on $40 a day.
Thats for cheap fan room, brekky, lunch, and dinner with a couple of beers, and a hire motorbike. If you intend to travel around by bus or train, and have some extra "fun" then you may need to allow a bit extra. Have a good trip. |
