Sounds good. Odd, though. I would use travel money more to get around, rather than shop. With the Internet you can buy almost anything anyway.
I used $3000 for my last trip to Japan, but it only costed that much because I had to cancel a flight and choose another one... I was going to buy a souvenir tie at a hotel, but it was equal to $350 USD! I remember time during my Anime-niac days when I would convince myself that Japan was all I needed to be happy, and everything that was perfect to me. Although life was so simple back then (though still unfulfilled), I'm glad I'm not in the dark anymore. |

3,000 USD is a lot of money.
However how far it goes depends on many many factors. Such as: 1. How long of a trip. 2. Airfare included? 3. Type of accommodation you stay at. 4. How much you travel around. 5. How much you like to party and drink. 6. How much you like to eat. Just like anywhere else you can spend 5 dollars on a cheap lunch or 50 dollars for a not so cheap lunch. Depends on the type of establishment. 50 dollar hotel or 500 dollar hotel, again depending. A typical one week trip say airfare included, and say moderately priced business hotel would be something ranging to 1500-2000 for a week. You can probably stretch it again depending on how cheap you're willing to go on accommodation. Transportation (air fare) and accommodation are the biggest bite in anyone's budget. |

hello there! ^_^ I will be traveling to Japan for the second time this summer! Tokyo is much more expensive than the US. That amount is fine if it's only for extra stuff. Don't include all of your hotels, transportation, or dinning expenses in that or you maybe lost. Plus the airline ticket to get there will cost about that much alone. Either way, it's a very beautiful place, don't limit your self by staying in Tokyo city, I sugest going to the Japanese country side to experiance it's natural beauty. ^_^ good luck!!!!

Since I used to live in Tokyo, I can tell it's enough to do things like the following: a ticket $1000-, hotel $50-, GOOD sushi for one person $50-, Ipod...get it in the States(it's cheaper), nice clothes...go to "Uniqlo"( this is a reasonable Japanese, yet good quality clothes brand. They have a branch in NY, but they are more expensive... In Japan, the prices are $15 jeans, $10 T-shirt, etc.) NEVER buy American brand there- it's twice as expensive. If you want high style, expect $80- per shirts, $50- per T-shirt, $100- per jeans. I tell you I have spent $100 easily for one night drinking party there, very easily!

Eat traditional Japanese foods. McDonald's is out.
Find a as cheap a hotel as you can. Doesn't matter, once you're asleep, where you take rest. After you pay for an airline ticket, you will be on a tight budget. Of course, you didn't mention how long you plan to stay. Three days, three weeks, three months. So, no one can really tell you if 3G will do it. |

That will last you quite a while..meals are basically the same price as in the US as long as you dont plan to go to any fancy restaraunts...electronics and be surprisingly cheaper..visit akihabara if you want ipods, and other electronics..Clothes are probably the most expensive thing, but depends on your style..remeber though most japanese clothes are made for the japanese frame..so if your a little big dont expect to find your size..
Also try booking your hotel and flight together, on travelocity i think there was a round trip, and a 20 day hotel stay for around 1100 us..pretty good deal, but search the travel sites |
