If we REALLY want to reduce the deficit, here's the best way" Stop warmongering, and cut ALL the fat out of Pentagon spending. Once the deficit is eliminated and the National Debt reduced (as Clinton achieved) then the amount we need to spend on INTERST on the Debt (another major expense) will go down. |

I'd support a high speed rail system or even a modern rail system if that ever came up. But it wouldn't be cheap. Not initially. It'd take decades to recover from the cost of developing such a system. We can improve air travel much more inexpensively.
As to the budget deficit, that's rapidly falling. Within a couple of years, many project that we'll again have a surplus. NO ONE can maintain a surplus in a time of recession and that's precisely what Bush II inherited from the Clintons. |
