Default Considering our budget deficit, do you support reducing funds for air travel?

The US tax payers fund air traffic control, build runways, etc. Wouldn't these funds be better used in building a high speed rail system?

No but what we should look at are the programs instated to keep minorities and poor people down such as welfare, we could save alot if we used it as intended

The ATC system is paid for by the taxes on airplane tickets. Runways are paid by the agency that "owns" the airports.

I believe that we just need to cut spending overall, but that's not going to happen with this congress, or a Democratic president.

Oh, less air safety is certainly a cost-effective move!
If we REALLY want to reduce the deficit, here's the best way" Stop warmongering, and cut ALL the fat out of Pentagon spending.

Once the deficit is eliminated and the National Debt reduced (as Clinton achieved) then the amount we need to spend on INTERST on the Debt (another major expense) will go down.

Maybe, locally produced goods would be better.

If you wanna save money, look at where the majority of the money goes, on war, and to the rich.

No didn't you see on dateline when they had an episode about what the government pays for, but it seems to be a waste.

Such as spending 100,000 of tax payers money on the study of cows.

I'd support a high speed rail system or even a modern rail system if that ever came up. But it wouldn't be cheap. Not initially. It'd take decades to recover from the cost of developing such a system. We can improve air travel much more inexpensively.

As to the budget deficit, that's rapidly falling. Within a couple of years, many project that we'll again have a surplus. NO ONE can maintain a surplus in a time of recession and that's precisely what Bush II inherited from the Clintons.

HS rail would be a better mode of travel. The Airline industry has got a firm grip of things. It would not be a overnight conversion. It would be a long uphill battle just on persuasion
