I would suggest a hotel in the Back bay area. That is centrally located and with in walking distance to a lot of things. The Fairmont Copley Plaza is one of them.

Another option a littl ecloser is the NineZero, but it is costlier too.

Most of the hotels near the freedom trail are pretty pricey. I would find one on the T, and then take the train into town. That gives you a lot more choices, and the train works really well in Boston. They also have buses that take you to the train, so you can get on it from just about anywhere. Hope this helps you.

There are very few. In town, especially near the tourist spots, expensive.

I stayed at the Days Inn in Saugus. They've a van which runs to the airport subway stop or any of the terminals.

I have heard nothing but good things about the Club Quarters and The Oakwood on Devonshire. Both are hotels located in renovated office buildings and both are on the Freedom Trail but I understand that it is almost impossible to find an empty room at either.
