Which is better, probably the Park Plaza. I've stayed at the Sheraton, in one of the top floor rooms - the Sheraton is certainly very nice. I've never stayed at the Park Plaza but it just seems classier. Both are in good locations. Either would be a good choice.
Back Bay is kind of central to all things in Boston. Copley Plaza is there (high end shopping, i.e. Tiffany), the public garden, Boston Common, Newbury street (more high end shops and restaurants), Boston's Brown Stone neighborhood. Berkley school of music, Beacon Street abuts Back Bay. You can easily walk to the theater district or Fenway Park. |

The Back Bay is half residential (old Brownstone buildings) and a mix of office buildings, shops and restaurants, including Newbury Street which is the city's "high end shopping" street. It's a nice area to walk around.
The Sheraton is right in the Back Bay, but is only about 8 blocks away from the Parka Plaza. The Park Plaza is an older but classy hotel, while the Sheraton is more modern. Both are easily accessible to the same area - Park Plaza is in the theater district, closer to Chinatown, nightclubs and theaters, and the Public Garden. The Sheraton is closer to Newbury St, Hynes Convention Center, the Prudential Center, Fenway. |

The Park Plaza is right in the middle of the touristy area of boston, so If you don't want to fight with the car or the Train, the Park Plaza is very good, and it also has a lot of very interesting history. I've never been to the Sheraton. The Back Bay is less touristy, but you have to be careful if you walk and you're not sure of the area because it's close to some of the bad parts of town, but the back bay it's self is ok. Another hotel to think about is the Hyatt Cambridge. It looks over the Charles River and over the Boston Skyline. It is amazing, my college had a banquet there. It's not far from MIT also.
