Inexpensive hotels in Salem or Boston?

I can't seem to find any inexpensive hotels in Salem or Boston, MA! I haven't been able to find anywhere for under $130/night. I would prefer to stay at a hotel that is at the most $80/night but I would like it to be clean and in a safe area. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

I go to Salem every year in October and we stay just right outside in a town called Peabody. It's only about 10 mins away and the hotels aren't that much. They have a marriot, a hilton and one other hotel right in the same area. It is in a safe area and is located on a main road. Good luck finding a hotel for a cheaper price in Boston...we stayed at the Radisson which was kind of gross. The beds were horrible the bathroom was soooo tiny and there weren't any refrigerators in the rooms. The only good thing was that we were in a good location. We paid double the amount for the room in Boston as we did for the room in Peabody. The rooms in Peabody are clean and have a small kitchen with a stove, microwave and refrigerator. The rooms are clean and well kept. Good luck!

beware of stuff on route 1 in peabody...carriage house, etc are all dumps...hoewood suites and springhill suites are nice but tough to get to...poor urban planning..you are in massachusetts..stuff is just more expensive there

Just a idea...if you have (triple A) AAA, go on their website, you should find a pretty decent hotels under $130. I found a Sheraton hotel in south boston for $79. It depends on the seasons.
