I stayed at the Hyatt regency in downtown crossing a few weeks ago. Very nice, good area, close to everything. You could also look at the Marriott waterfront. Once you are in the city, you wont need to do much driving as Boston is only 2.5 miles in length or you can take a cab because parking is expensive in the city.

LdySprtn does not know what she is talking about! ehh those annoyng tourists.
Chinatown is like every other chinatown in the world (but its fairly small compareto NY and SF) its not the cleanest part of town but its close to everything, lots of delicious restaurants (if you like Asian food) and even though its called chinatown it is very multi-cultured Jamaica Plains is the artsy-hip-hipster part of Boston. Lots of cool cafes, stores seling clothing from independent designers, etc.. Do NOT stay anywhere near downtown (downtown crossing area) I recomend staying at the Charles Hotel in Harvard Square. Cambridge has much more to do than Boston in term of night life and such (remember the last T ends at 1) and its just a 10 minute T ride into the touristy part of boston For the girl above me that said Boston is 2.5 miles in length is LYING. THe freedom trail along in 2.5 miles and thats only downtown/northend/charlestown. Boston is HUGE when you consider all the various neighborhoods (revere, hyde park, dorchester, roxbury crossing, jamaica plains, and like 50 other neighborhood) |

Alright, so let's try to stop confusing the poor asker and actually help them out, shall we?
"Me" is wrong about a few things. First, Revere is NOT part of Boston, it is it's own separate city. I believe she is thinking of Chelsea, which as of right now is it's own city, but is bankrupt and Boston is considering taking it in as one of the many neighborhoods in it. Also, Downtown Boston is about 2.5-3.5 miles long, as the crow flies(that means in a straight line). The Freedom Trail is 2.5 miles because it twists all thru the city. Now onto the question at hand.... If you don't mind a little travel outside the city, I suggest going onto Hotels.com and looking up some reasonable hotels in the area. Places to avoid include the following: Dorchester, Roslindale, Roxbury, Roxbury Crossing, Jamaica Plain(mostly at night though), Chelsea, and even some parts of Allston and Brighton that are right in the city. You pretty much want to stick to being in Downtown Boston, or to the north of the city, with the exception of Chelsea as I pointed out. |
