Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority
Riding the public transit system (known as the "T") is one of the best ways to get around Boston. The four subway lines are designated by colors, Red, Blue, Green and Orange, and the lines intersect at several points downtown. Using search categories regarding Boston can save you money on trips and designations as well. Buses are safe and cheap way to get around town and most cities are 24 hours a day. |

It's very easy to get from the airport hotels into the city - the airport is in east boston, just across the harbor from downtown.
You can the the "T" into the city from the airport, or take a water shuttle across the harbor. Once you get outside the city it's like any subruban area - the hotels tend to be segmented from any downtown areas, a bit isolated, and it can be tricky to do much without a car. Newton has some hotels that are close to commuter rail and/or the "T" and also have a bit around them, but staying "in town" or at worst the airport is going to be better overall. You can check for hotels in Newton, Brookline, Cambridge and may be able to find something more reasonably priced. If you can find something around Harvard Square in Cambridge that is affordable the that would be perfect. |
