Default Romantic things to do in Dec in the Connecticut, Mass (Boston), Rhodle Island area???

So my husband comes home from basic and military training in December. I want to plan some romantic outings and I need a little help...

So what is there to do, to see, to visit in December in Connecticut, Mass, (mainly Boston....but anywhere near CT and Boston is good) and Rhodle Island (Block Island too maybe?)?

I love Boston, but never went in the winter time...and I've always wanted to go to the beach in the dead of winter, not sure if Rocky Neck is open..or anywhere else..I know Meridan, Ct has like a park they decorate with Christmas lights....i think?

Also if you could supply a website or two...it would be most appriciated! Thank you so much!

It's a bit of a hike in the other direction, but a great weekend getaway would be Bear Mountain State Park in NY (my direction is off but it's near the Tappan Zee, not too far a hike - about 3 hours from New London). They decorate all their huge trees with white lights and if you arrange to arrive after sundown, it is simply incredible. When I say all their trees, I can't give you a picture suitable ... just imagine walking under this canopy and all the lights of all the 100s of trees are twinkling. (Weddings there are huge, so the lights must hold an amazing appeal.) They have a fantastic, if expensive, restaurant there and the Inn is wonderful. Try it --

Have you thought about visiting Newport, Rhode Island. In December, the 'Newport Mansions, ' are decorated for Christmas. You can wander the beautiful grounds or walk the streets. Very romantic. The town of Newport is also dressed up for Christmas. Visit the local cookie shops, you will smell the cookies baking in the streets. Sip hot cocoa and enjoy the season. You can stay in Providence for a night or two and do a day trip over to Newport. In Providence their is an ice scating rink in the center of the city, with Christmas music playing over the ice. This is located directly in front of the Biltmore hotel and the Westin. You can also get to Federal Hill(The italian Section) in about 5 minutes from these hotels for a very romantic dinner.
Several Christmas events take place in the city as well.

Meriden Ct decorates Hubbard Park with lights ans it is very pretty. Forest Park in Springfield Ma does it too, on a much larger scale, but they charge you to drive thru and it is sorta tacky compared to Hubbard Park, but the Springfield one is Dr Suess themed which I like. Hubbard park also has a tower on top of a mountain that they call "Castle Craig". It is not a castle, merely a tower, but you can drive up to the top of the mountain and then climb to the top of the tower- great views. The tower access road closes early though (like 4 or 5) and it is a long hike if the road is closed. Rocky Neck is open in the winter time- until sunset I'm pretty sure.

Newport, Rhode Island is nice, stay in a bed and breakfast. Boston is also a favorite of mine leading into the Christmas season. The city has it share of nice botique hotels and choices for romantic dinners, Ruth's Christ among many others. Why not consider a bed and breakfast in Vermont, even if you don't ski, there are many activities. Manchester, Killington, Stowe are just a few.
