A very interesting part of the city is Las Ramblas and the Gothic Quarter, which is to the left of Las Ramblas when you are walking down towards the sea. You can go to Las Ramblas by going to the Plaza Catalunya metro stop (red and green line) or the Liceu Metro stop (green line).

Here is an address for a web page which outlines the gothic quarter: http://www.bcn.es/turisme/english/turisme/llocs/13_0.htm

After you have toured this area you can return to Plaza Catalunya and walk up Passeig de Gracia. Not only is this a very nice shopping area but "La Pedrera" and "Casa Battló" (buildings designed by Antoni Gaudi) are located there. The Pedrera is on the corner of forenamed street and Provença; while the Casa Battló is located at number 43.

Speaking of Gaudi, on this very street you can take the purple line of the metro and go to La Sagrada Familia; his famous church.

This should keep you busy for a while. If you want further information do a Google seach for Toruism in Barcelona.

Just one word of caution...unfortunately we have expert pickpockets working the tourist areas of the city so PLEASE hold on to your valuables securely and don't get distracted by the beauty of the scenery and leave your objects unattended (or on the back of a chair in a bar or restaurant) for even one minute as tourists are definite "marks" for these people! Having said that I must state that I am a blonde American who has been living in the city for 16 years and have never had any problems....

I hope you enjoy your visit!

The bull run is always fun, and downtown is beautiful. There is some fun shops, and in the outskirts of Barcelona there is some great tours and museams. Have fun!
