I am up for experiencing good authentic Spanish food (not Americanized or Mexican food in US). I am willing to take a taxi if I have to. Any recommendations? I thank you for your advice. |

Yes, les Set Portes is OK.
Pls bear in mind that Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia, an autonomous region with a different language and customs, so if you are offered "Spanish food" it is surely a tourist-trap. In fact many of us locals do not feel Spanish at all. Pls see this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catalan_cuisine In fact, each region in Spain is so different of each other that you cannot talk about "Spanish food" as a whole. It would be like speaking of "European food". |

Anyplace along the Ramblas (I think you'll want to take the Metro or a taxi) should fit your interests...just avoid the obvious American Chains...there's a McD's, a Burger King, a couple of KFCs, Pizza Hut, etc.
I recommend that you have some seafood. If you want good paella, (the national diash) ask if it is CASERA. Otherwise, you might be getting what comes out of a box. :P You won't find Mexican food. See...Spain is NOT Mexico, and, in fact, it is quite unusual to find a Mexican place ANYWHERE in Spain, but there are some, and you aren't really likely to find "Americanized" foods. Not to my knowledge, anyway...maybe you would find such a thing near the terminal, so you would want to be careful...but certainly not in the middle parts of the city. Look for tapas: My faves are the tortillas (which, in Spain, are big, fat omelette/frittata dishes. Espinacas (spinach) is really good and espaƱola (garlic, onion, and potato) is the typical one. francesa means that nothing is added...just eggs. croquetas are nice, my young son loved them. Don't eat pizza in Spain...it's pretty bad! Again, go for some of the REALLY FRESH seafood. Barcelona is known for it. Gambas (shrimp) in any style and there is a variety of shellfish that is just to DIE for! |
