Can anybody recommend any small hidden away restaurants in barcelona?

Ive heard that there are many really nice small hidden away traditional restaurants in barcelona, away from the main tourist areas.....any advice? thanks very much

I like the oldest restaurant in Barcelona, Can Culleretes (sp?) in Carrer Quintana. Ok it is not small but feels small because it is made up of a number of rooms. The wine is unbelievably cheap.

The food of Can Culleretes is not very Spanish. It is very Catalan, which is not really the same. Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia and many of us do not really feel Spanish.

There are many restaurants in the city centre that could be classes as hidden away, as some of the winding streets of Cuitat Vella are not so easy to navigate. Spain on awhole has a law that restaurants have to have a midday menu (menu del dia) which is usually very reasonable, ranging from around 7-14 Euros depending on the place.

You could try eating in La Boqueria market, for example, which has amazingly fresh produce, and don't worry too much about stumbling upon toutisty places. Use common sense (don't eat on Las Ramblas, and don't eat anywhere that has photos of the food!). You might also want to see this page
