Default What is a nice hotel in central Bangkok?

Me and my friends are going there soon and want to stay in a nice hotel. We're kind of not on a budget, but we want something near the nightlife and hustle and bustle.
Can anyone suggest anything?
Thanks!

You want fancier try
Landmark Hotel, Sukhumveit
Amari Hotel, Soi 5
Grand President, Soi 11

All very good location

ALSO NOTE THE CURRENT SITUATION:

Tarntawan seems like a good place. Smack in the nightlife area, four stars, easy going.

in Bangkok i would recomend Master place hotel
Chok Chai 4 soi 72 Lad Prao it is about 100-150thb by taxi from anything.
It is clean, secure has internet, cable tv, fridge, nice bathroom. 500thb a night plus a 500thb deposit on teh bar fridge.
I prefer to stay there because what i get for teh money is good and it is secure and safe.
However you may be looking for something closer from your description to the Sukhumvit area (mind you ALL of Bangkok has good night life) Silom area patpong or RCA roads. I am reluctant to refer you to anything because i personally would always prefer just to get a taxi home when my time is right to Lad Prao. (lad Prao has plenty of bars etc also)
Closer in in Sukhumvit you can expect to pay 1000thb a night for the same deal.
have a look at www.9apartment.com to give you some idea.
If budget is trully not an issue then just get a taxi to Sukhumvit with your bags and drive down Soi 22 and 24 heaps of very nice hotels take yoru pic. (prices 1000+++thb a night)

Hi Shabba, you should try the millenium sukhumvit hotel (http://gekko.com/Main.html#pageId%3DPOI.summary.d%3D3.id%3D133598)
It's really well placed and a lovely hotel, otherwise what I always do when I'm looking for hotels in areas that I don't know is look at http://gekko.com because it matches my requirements with hotels in the area, I've also found it to be useful when searching for restaurants. Really hope you find somewhere and enjoy Bangkok!

The Ambassador Bangkok was probably a "higher class" hotel than it currently is some years ago. Despite its age, it has a grand reception area, and large built-up areas which included convention halls, its own attached shopping malls (although quite vacant) and even its own bird park! Most important of all, it has a very friendly bunch of service staff. All the staff which I had encountered during my stay, whether from reception or housekeeping were helpful and approachable.
