Tapas Cafe, Spanish Bar and Restaurant
ADDRESS 1/25 Sukhumvit Soi 11, Bangkok 10110 SETTING Tapas Cafe is set in a converted shophouse and decorated in the quintessential yellows and browns of Spain to create a very appealing and welcoming ambience. FOOD Authentic Spanish culinary delights are presented by chef Xavier Paloma. Start with gazpacho, or chilled tomato and vegetable soup. Follow this with a selection of salads that are excellently dressed, especially tomato and artichoke, and grilled goat cheese and red pepper salad. tortillas de patatas, potato and onion omelette, is a slighty salty but interesting alternative. Prawns in a spicy garlic sauce is well suited to local Thai palates. Slightly oily, grilled baby squid, perfectly balanced by the tang of lemons is very successful. Paella de Mariscos, which is very much like Thai fried rice, comes in a generous portion and is served in a large pan. Featuring squid, clams, prawns, and very fresh mussels, the overall taste of this dish is exceptional. For dessert, try chocolate mousse and pear in wine sauce. http://www.tapasiarestaurants.com/ Rioja Spanish Bar & Restaurant ADDRESS 1025 Ploenchit Rd, Bangkok 10330 SETTING At the end of a quiet soi off busy Ploenchit Road, Rioja offers a rustic, family-like ambience at the front and a more formal but cosy setting in the bodega at the back. FOOD The only Spanish restaurant in town serves specialities from all around Spain, prepared by a Thai chef who was trained by co-founder and chef Fernando Andres Yusta. Begin the Iberian feast lightly with duck liver salad and raspberry vinegar, or follow the chef's recommendation with tender and tasty gallega octopus served with boiled potatoes and virgin olive oil. Sample authentic cold cuts with plank of Iberian ham and toasted bread with tomato. Allow a 20-minute wait and continue with seafood paella, which - if served hot - will not disappoint. Grilled lamb loin Rossini, succulent and generous, is good for those very hungry. Do not leave without trying apple flan with lemon sauce or the house's tempting home-made chocolate tr http://www.riojath.com/frame.html Tapas Y Vino Restaurant.
