Hotels near skytrain should be located on Sukhumwit, Siam (Rama 1), Silom areas. This areas is in the center of Bangkok, many shopping area, restaurant and more..... this web may help you http://www.thailand-destinations.com/bangkok.html

If you are shopping lover you should find hotels near Siam (Rama 1 rd.) , there are many huge shopping mall eg. MBK, Siam Paragon, Central World which you can walk from one to anothers, close to this area you can find the biggest wholesale clothing market that is "Pratunam" very cheap and can negotiate.

I'd recommend Asia hotel. Sky Train is connected to the hotel and it’s only one stop from Siam. If you are not familiar with Bangkok, this would be a good hotel to stay due to its location!!!
Direct access to mall for shops/restaurants. Convenient for train to great weekend market - the Chatuchak market. Siam Square and Victory Monument were all within easy reach on the BTS. Reasonable walking distance to Jim Thompson house. MBK was 10-15 minutes walk. Breakfast buffet spread was pretty good and had a good assortment. The superior room was good value for money. Try this site http://www.discovery-thailand.com/Bangkok%20hotels.html and you can now book superior room for USD69 (discount from 120).

Try the Hotel Tai-Pan in Sukhumvit, Bangkok. There are 2 nearby skytrain stations- Nana and Asok.

Close to Asoke I would say Amari on Soi 5 or Sofitel Grand Surkihvit (new hotel and very nice) near Askoke. www.accorhotels.com

Novotel Lotus on Soi 33 again www.accorhotels.com

With this chain you know what your getting. and all the hotels quoted here are 3 to 4 stars.

Asia Hotel has been quoted here in the answers I have seen this hotel and I would not use this hotel

www.asiarooms.com (same firm that owns Thomas Cook)
