I am going from Peth to Kolkata via Bangkok. there is a 6 hour gap between my connecting flight and these 6 hours fall in daytime. I would like to do some local sightseeing if that is possible in 6 hours. I want to know how i can go about it and if I would have to apply for a thai visa or something.

Thai Airways does not give free local tours that I am aware of. The airport is about an hour drive from the city, so if you take the time to drive to the city and back, it is a minimum of 2 hours. 6 hours minus 2 hours leaves you only 4 hours to see something. The cost for the taxi back and forth to the city with tolls would run around US $20 - $25.
With 4 hours you could probably walk around Sukhumvit Road and get a real feel for Bangkok city or even visit ONE attraction. But I feel you would be severely rushed for time. An option would be to stay in the airport, get a 2 hour massage, get some Thai food at one of the numerous restaurants, and take it easy. As far as transit visit for 6 hours, I think that would depend on your nationality and what country your passport is from. Good luck |

thai airways does not do this - but for 6 hours it would be very easy just to nip into bangkok city (30 mins from airport) and take a look around. you will need a visa (depending on country) to leave the airport. taxi drivers will know most of the main tourist attractions. just make sure they use the meter.

With the notoriously long cues at Immigration, your 6 hours would be further reduced by waiting in line on your way into Bangkok and the way back into the airport - plus do not underestimate the traffic between airport and city center. 30 minutes one way to Sukkhumvit Rd. might be possible but is not very realistic and you do not want to miss your flight.
I like the idea of a Thai massage and Thai food, both available at the airport. |

you dont state when you are travelling....
the skytrain extension should open later this year which will connect BKK airport and downtown. It will be fastest way to get in and out of city. You could get skytrain to ASOK station then go to Soi Cowboy for a real taste of Bangkok.... but will you ever want to leave !!! |
