MBK! take skytrain (the fastest way to go around bangkok anyway!) and get off SIAM SQUARE. MBK is cheap and ok quality - if you dont mind buying "possibly not really original brands".

A taxi ride into Bangkok is somewhere between 25 minutes and 45 minutes depending on traffic and time of day.

How many hours do you have? If you were to stay at the other Asia Hotel in Bangkok (right on a Skytrain stop) you could walk down to Phetchaburi Road and shop and shop, etc. Or take the Skytrain to Sukhumvit or Silom for more shopping!

Meter taxi from the Suvarnabhumi Airport to "downtown" is around 350 baht. This is a 50 baht surcharge for getting a taxi at the taxi sign up desk, just outside the arrivals hall near the curb, plus the meter charge and possibly 2 toll charges totaling 65 baht. Total charge usually comes to around 350 baht per ride. Price covers everyone in the taxi not per person.

Two airports in Bangkok. One airport for mostly local within Thailand flights is from Don Muang (DMK.) The other is Subarnabhumi (BKK) for international flights and some local flights. Make sure you have the right airport.

You can buy some T-shirts at the one of the airport (overpriced) concession too!

The best place for cheap t-shirts is Pratunam. They have all type of clothes and really cheap. JJ is also a good choice, huge and not that far, but you just have to watch the time really carefully. There're lots of cool stuff and not that expensive.

All of those answers are good but Asia Airport is in Rangsit, and has no Skytrain or MRT stations (yet). Pratunam, Siam Square and MBK is on the opposite side of town.

Depending on what day you go, try Union Mall its only about 20 mins by taxis and across from Central Ladprao. The whole shopping center has clothing shops except the top 2 floors, and its has A/C.

Or on Sat and Sun JJ Market is your best bet, also in the same vicinity.
