You may be able to find a hotel room with not to many problem unless your going to be here during the Thai New Year (songkram) that starts on the 13th of April. But think about this walking around these big cities trying to find a place with luggage. For me I don't think it's a good idea. I find that sometimes the price is higher when you walk in off the street, they know you are tired from your trip and need a place to rest. I recommend you book a place for at least one or two nights then if you don't like it look around for something better.

In Pattaya you should have no trouble finding a good hotel without a booking.
Bangkok is not as easy as it is so much bigger, different districts vary so much, and hotel occupancy levels change depending on what's currently going on. I would book a night or two in advance and then look around for somewhere that suits you better. In my experience 1, 2, and 3 star hotels can often be cheaper if you just turn up, but 4 and 5 star hotels are almost always cheaper on an internet booking. |

You will pay the most by walking around. You are saying "take me for a fool and take my money too".
You are on line. Reserve on line and Pay in advance. Yes! Pay in advance. Manhattan Hotel is a good place, not too cheap, nice breakfast buffet, very close to skytrain. Invest your time on line and you will save a bundle. Look for a place near subway or skytrain. Pattaya: stay close to the beach. Stay off the hill, too far to walk to everything. |

From my experience in Bangkok, its wiser to book it online as the prices for walk in are higher. Especially when a cab drives you there the hotels charge higher and pays a commision to the cab driver. Get all your rates first before arriving.
Try this website www.cheaphotel-s. com , you can search through 30 over websites and 700,000 hotels worldwide. You can choose to search through hotel ratings and price. Good luck. Have a nice trip. |

You can do it. You may even be lucky and get a room at your first attempt.
But it's steaming hot. The pavements are obstacle courses. Dragging your luggage around looking for a hotel is the worst possible way to start your stay there. The advice you have been given (before posing your question) is BAD advice. Book in advance on the web. Just google "hotels-in-Bangkok" and you'll get hundreds of websites to browse, all offering better rates than you'll get on a "walk-in" basis. |
