Does anyone know of nice, cheap hotels in Baltimore, MD?

Your best bet would be to stay in the BWI Airport area which is about 10 minutes away from the inner harbor. The hotels are much nicer and the prices are good. You should use Hotwire, which is an online place where you can get discounted hotel rooms. I used them a lot and I've never stayed in any 'scary' hotels.

The nice places to stay in the city are sky high in price. Like $200 a night. And the less expensive ones usually are pretty rank. And I work in the city, the mice and roach problem is out of control.

Depending on what you are looking for you might also want to look into a "rental home". Sites such as www.vrbo.com let you search a whole list of homes and apartments people will rent out, if you have a group, then you can have more bedrooms and it works out cheaper, you also get a kitchen and living room and sometimes nice yards and pools with this. Its one of my new favorite ways to travel. If this isn't you, check out www.kayak.com they search multiple sites. I would also look at www.hotels.com as they often have the most reviews of a hotel and people are pretty honest if not too critical on those.

Here's a list of hotels in Baltimore that are sorted by price. You can see the hotel rating also. I usually get the cheapest hotel that I can afford, but also keep in mind that it should have a decent hotel rating. Or just try to get the highest rated hotel for my price range. Good luck.
