Default Backpacking and train travel in England?

My husband and I want to jump on and off the train throughout England in March 2008. Any advice on where to stay, hostels, B & B's, etc? We are all for adventure...and were in our 40's.

I went backpacking after highschool , SOLO. so I used alot of different guides to help me. I would highly recommend looking into rick steves, he does local "through the back door " tours and give alot of detailes about the places that he visited. Also Look into " a year in europe.com" they start their trip in england and go extensively into detail about places to stay and when to rent a car. When I used Frommers guide book and it gave great advice. They suggested I get a hotel from the airport because I was solo and they would find me a hotel that was safe, then on my first day I did sight seeing around the next place I was going to stay which was the university dorms they rent them out in the summer. I felt safe and they even included breakfast in the morning. I then went to dover, england and on advice from "frommers" did not book a hotel. Once I reached Dover, right outside the train station(5 minute walk, right)there are ALOT of bed and breakfast that are comfortable and cheap. the farther right you walk the cheaper they got. I loved my trip and I wuld do it again. I am getting excited for you. I hope you can find what your looking for , make sure to check out those sights and books they will come in handy.

The best place to get this information would be from any of the Lonely Planet guides. I am currently pouring through the Eastern Europe one.
Also, I am using travel websites
try www.tipsfortravel.net, or www.backpackeurope.com
