I am travelling to Australia this year, could someone recommend the best place to look 4 an open ended ticket?

I am 35 (i.e not a student), hopefully traveling with a friend and need to know the best place and preferably the cheapest, to look for an open ended ticket as not sure when I will be coming back although it is likely to be in about 6 months Have not set a date for travelling, is there a best time to go? Where are the best places and cheapest airfares?

I liked Sydney and Melbourne. Sydney is bigger and more action, so i would probably go there. You also should visit Gold Coast-amazing white sand heavenly beaches. i would go live there,it will be a bit boring,but 5-7 days holiday would be good. i wouldnt recommend going to live in Adelaide, but u should visit it as well and go on tour to Kangaroo island. i would also recommend Puffing Billy in melbourne and Blue Mountains.try the whole day tours in Sydney and Melbourne, they are just awesome!
