I want to go to Perth, and Sydney, and then onto a hot beach holiday (Bali or Malaysia??) and back to the UK during August 2010.
Can anybody advise me on the cheapest way and the logistical nightmares please? |

You shouldn't have any nightmare if you just keep on that route rather than having to backtrack to Australia in which case you'd need make sure you are allowed to enter Australia twice on the visa. A bit better option would probably be to fly london - Sydney then go across to Perth - Bali - Malaysia - London. A Sydney to perth flight is not usually all that cheap so you would want to look at booking that well before you arrive in Australia to avoid paying many hundreds of dollars. I know that at the moment Air Asia has a Perth - Bali route and they would also have a Bali - Kuala Lumpur route they also have some cheap internal Malaysian flights and a Kuala Lumpur to London route. Don't leave it too late to book the flight to Australia because I am currently in the process of looking to go to Europe in July/August next year from Australia and am already having trouble getting any cheap flights on the dates I want to go.

I did a similar trip a couple of years ago. We flew with Malaysia Air and had a stopover on the island of Penang off the coast of Malaysia. We then continued to New Zealand and returned to the UK from Sydney. We found Malaysia Air to be very flexible and co-operative in respect of our itinerary.

Good answer from AH. As far as I can tell you will need to put yourself in the hands of about three airlines. Malaysian can do the London - Sydney, Bali - Kuala Lumpur - Kuala Lumpur - London legs.
The bit you will need to do yourself is Sydney - Perth. Not cheap I'm afraid but better than it used to be. Try an independent travel agent if you have one near you, if not email travel@journeysalacarte, they are very good and I use them a lot for this kind of trip or try Travelbag or Trailfinders both of whom offer good service. I hope you have a great trip, Perth and Sydney are great places. |
