I was wondering if anyone had advice on if I'd need a visa to travel to Australia or New Zealand? I'd be hopefully going on a 4 weeks holiday & hold a full british passport.
I am planning to visit my brother who currently lives in New Zealand, next May. He may be in Australia by the time I want to come visit as he's thinking of moving there. |

Yes, you need a tourist visa irrespective of your passport.
If you are allowed to board ithout a visa, the airline will be fined. I know this because the first time I visited Australia (and visited 6 more times before coming in on a permanent visa) I boarded without a visa. The airline (BA) tried to deny boarding but it was my last day on a Thai residency visa (I was living in Thailand at the time and was not a resident of the UK). BA was fined 3,000 pounds for myself, my mother and sister each for issuing tickets without informing us of visa requirements. Upon arrival, we were taken into a room and were questioned by Customs for an hour until we were granted visas (hand written :b) The same thing also happened to a family of 4 Brits whose children were classmates of mine. Duh. You think they would have learnt the first time. |

Yeah, you need a Visa, when entering Australia/New Zealand your passport is scanned onto the computer at customs to see if you have authority to enter the Country, or any reasons for your entry to be denied.
Unfortunately you'd need a visa for both countries, you can get these at places like flight centre, austravel STA or even online, they'll cost you about £15/£20 pounds they last you 3 months from the date of buying. They will send you it to your email address, it is always best to take a copy, they may ask to see. Have fun on your travels, you'll love it! |
