I am travelling to Australia for 3 weeks will i be able to use my British driving Licence to drive over there?

yes course, where u going to, i drove all round tassie and used aaa car people (its aaa summat anyway) was recommended by the hostel i was staying at as it was cheap

As for insurance it depends what you're doing. If you hire a car you'll get insurance. If you want to drive someone else's car you'll have to look at their insurance and if it doesn't allow other drivers you can get temporary cover from any insurance company - best thing to do would be to ask whoever you are visiting to sort it out for you.
