Taronga Zoo is a must with kids, and they would probably love the Sydney Aquarium too. I would also suggest a trip on a ferry, the kids will love the wind in their hair! And of course, a trip to a beach - any beach would be good that time of year, but you may want to pay a visit to Bondi. You could also try Featherdale Wildlife Park. I've never been there, but it is sure to be a hit with the kids. You could take a trip out to the Blue Mountains, there are lots of great lookouts and attractions out there - you could even go on the cable cars! But most of all, just enjoy your time in Sydney!!

Maybe try Manly instead of Bondi Beach. You can catch the ferry there then depending on the wind direction you can either go to the beach on the coast side, which is just a short walk from the ferry, or you can go to the beach on the harbourside, right next to the ferry. Coast, you get the waves, harbour you don't. Then you can walk from there to the aquarium. The kids can watch from the underwater tunnel as you swim with the sharks.

The south coast of NSW is lovely and kids have a great time, somewhere like Merimbula where you can go to the beach, fishing, visit the aquarium, Magic Mountain, wildlife parks, the whaling museum in Eden, go camping, visit the cheese museum in Bega. It's a lovely scenic place and the weather is usually great in January.
Spend a few days to get there and back from Sydney, perhaps going via the coast in one direction and via Canberra the other way if you haven't already been there. |
