This will be our honeymoon. We really want to go, but if there's too much of a chance of us getting the swine flu, I'd rather not go. What do you think?

They have such good precautions against people who are travelling into Thailand and bringing swine flu in, that it seems you are probably at just as much risk anywhere else really!
Look at the Foreighn and Commonwealth Office website - they have all the up to date information about travelling into Thailand! Me personally, I would go!! http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travelling-and-living-overseas/travel-advice-by-country/asia-oceania/thailand |

Put it into perspective. So far swine fever has killed just over 280 people worldwide in about 5 months. Malaria kills about 1 million per year; common cold-related disease kills another 750000; measles kills another 500000, and so on.
Most of the people diagnosed with swine fever (it's not strictly 'flu' - that's a media shortcut which doesn't help) don't even know it until they see their doctor. They just think they have a bad cold. The air in aeroplanes is recycled but it is also sent through bacterial filters, which also stop viruses, in the process. You are far more likely to suffer from someone's recycled perfume or strong after shave than you are of picking up someone's germs. There are far greater dangers in Thailand than swine fever. It is a tropical country with lots of jungle after all - loads of beasties and bugses. They drive on different sides of the road to Australia too, and not always so well. You should definitely beware of pickpockets and swindlers, and be careful of street food vendors in Bangkok unless you have a strong stomach. You should both enjoy a genuine Thai massage, just make sure the salon is genuine. Many places will do a 'double' so you can both be subject to the "Thai" elbow together (they may be small but they have sharp elbows and the pressure can be high). Great afterwards though. |

There are already cases of swine flu in Australia as with Thailand and other places in this world. So, now a days, wherever you are, there are chances that you will catch swine flu, if you are not "lucky enough". Be you at home or be you are here in Bangkok. But if you are so worried traveling that you will catch the disease, then you will not enjoy your holiday. Better stay home. You will be much better if ever you will, catch swine flu, at home than abroad. But actually, Bangkok is not a place to be worried with swine flue. We still have a lot of visitors from abroad, enjoying their holiday here to the full. I would rather say that Bangkok is a lot more safe than other places. The health authorities are doing all their best to prevent and curb it.
So, come and have your honeymoon here. You are most welcome! |

no where is safe, why are you not concerned about your own town
I assume its because Thailand is backward and only has dirty hospitals and no real doctors? Nothing could be further from the truth they have hospitals that rank with any hospital in any developed country anywhere in the world. Take a look |

I just read this morning that the cruise ship with multiple cases of swine flu and 2,000 people on board docked in Brisbane this morning. The odds of you catching the swine flu in Thailand appear to be much less than in Australia, seems like a good time to get out of Brisbane.
