In North Queensland the weather will be pretty much like English summer weather dropping to around the mid to high twenties (Celsius) on the Gold Coast. People still swim and surf on the Gold coast in August and September, although July might be a little cool for surfing without a wetsuit.

Perfect weather in the Northern part of Australia. It's the dry season shorts and t shirt sandals sunglasses Once you get to the Gold Coast your in the middle of winter but should be lovely days and colder nights you will need a jacket jeans ot track pants . The brave go in the sea . Call into Airlie beach on the way down also if you have time go to fraser Island out from Hervey Bay The more South you get the colder it will be. New Zealand is a different story it will be very cold so you will be carrying all your winter clothes with you so yes some thermals for sure
