swallow a lot at takeoff and landing slightly helps. I get awful earache every time i'm on a plane so I know how you feel.
Apparently what can happen and did happen to me last year as well is you can get a bad ear infection. So swallow a lot at both ends of the flight and hold your nose and blow as if you are blowing onto a tissue. Weird but it might help it did with me on a couple of flights. Once you land pay attention to your ears if you have sore ears a couple of days later try to see a doctor and get some antibiotics it might help prevent a big ear infection coming on. |

Yes, there are two things you can do, basically. One is to take anti-air-sickness pills. Another is to cover your ears. You can cover your ears with noise-canceling headphones, or stuff them with cotton.
I hope you enjoy your flight and have a wonderful time in Australia! |

Ear ache when flying is often caused by difference in air pressure between air in your inner ear and the outside air in the presurised aircraft cabin.
The simple way to equalise the pressure and therefore alleviate the pain, is to take hold of your nose and pinch it closed, take in a gulp of air through your mouth, close your mouth and attept to blow the air out through your nose. If you do it now you may feel the noise/movement in your ear drums and inner ear. That's the air pressure equalised. |
