hello,
I am planing on traveling around the east coast of australia for 10.5 weeks during my summer vacation, how much money would you say i need? I have already paid for my flights and a Rail Australia Pass- East Coast Discovery Pass. I have worked out i will have £122.66 per a week which converts to $265.39 aud will this be enough? p.s. i know i need a certain amount in my bank, which i will have just wont necessarily mean i can spend the whole lot |

Depends on accommodation. It is possible to work and earn in short trips, but the cost of everyday living in Australia is compariable to the UK. So would you be able to live on £122.66 a week here?
Anyway the Eastern coast of Australia is gorgeous and one of the places everyone should visit in there life, just like the Grand Canyon and the Great Wall. I hope you have a really good time. Good Luck. |

I doubt very much if that will be enough if the 'per week' isn't a typo and you don't really mean 'per day'.
Even staying in large dorms in hostels, it's going to average something like $30 per day and that doesn't leave nearly enough for food and drinks, public transport within cities, entry to even cheap attractions and other incidentals. Also, don't count on getting $265.39 for your £122.66. You've evidently worked it out at the official inter-bank rate which isn't available to normal people and you'll actually get more like $254 or less at today's rate. |

Honestly, I doubt it.
Even staying in hostel accommodation for $30 a night that's $210 gone, plus food and you're out of money by Wednesday/Thursday. You also need to allow for activities and entry fee's, etc.. You need to pay for ferries, trams, entry to the zoo, to climb the sydney harbour bridge, etc.. I would try to allow at least double if not triple. £3000 minimum up to £5000 would be ideal. You don't necessarily need to have it all in cash, but at least have it available. As Ozmaniac said, you would be unlikely to actually get that exchange rate. $250 would be closer. |
