Default I shall travel to Australia, Tasmania and NZ for approx. 6 weaks. What should I visit?

What's the best time of the year, taking into account that the southern hemisphere changes seasons compared to Europe.

I spent 3 months in the Keiwa Valley. Very scenic and great people. Check out Wodonga/Albury, Ettomegga, Beechworth, Tangambalanga(great pub and take away). Then I went through the Kozies and the Snowy Mtn. ranges on my way to Merimbula and Eden. Highly recomend the dolphin tour in Eden. All this was in North East Victoria and the Saphire Coast of New South Wales, Australia. Also forget about Fosters beer. The best and true official beer is Victoria Bitter. Check out a game of footy if you get the chance. Hope this helps and enjoy your tour.

In Australia if you can get to the Barrier Reef and Cape Tribulation in Queensland it is worth it. Also Uluru in Central Australia. Sydney is OK with the Harbour but if you are time pressed then don't spend too long. Great Ocean Road in Victoria and Cradle Mountain in Tasmania are the other great places.

I can make some suggestions for New Zealand. January and February are the peak summer months and accomodation is priced accordingly. March is also a good time to visit.

The south island is the more scenic and dramatic featuring the southern alps mountains and fjordland but having said that the north island still blows many places in the world away for scenery.

Some places you might like to visit are;

Kaikoura - a nice little town very popular for sperm whale and dolphin watching.

Franz Josef and/or Fox glacier - A couple of the lowest glaciers on earth which you can go hiking on. Numerous other nature walks in the area. Can be very wet and humid, rain forest abounds.

Milford Sound - Dramatically beautiful fjord. The downside being it's pretty remote.

Queenstown - makes a good claim to being one of the adventure sport capitals of the world and the home of the worlds first permanent bungee jumping site. Good night life. Makes a good base for a visit to Milford sound.

Christchurch - the major city on the south island with a remarkabley English feel to it. numerous sites of interest in the city even if it's just chilling out in the very pleasant Hagley park.

when you go to Tasmania, don't go Strahan (it rains about 300 days a year) and avoid other places in the south. the north coast is much nicer weather wise. the huon pine forests or whatever they're called are beautiful. the food down there is great too. heaps of beautiful scenery. DON'T go to Queenstown. it's horrible!! a mining town that stripped the mountains bare so that all thats left is dirt mounds.
go to rotorua the hot geysers & hot pools & stuff like that in NZ. it stinks though.
make sure you pick the right season to go to Tas & NZ - both can be absolutely freezing & rainy in winter.

living in Aust i must 1st laugh at the notion that u think tasmania is apart from the rest of country, technically spose so being over the Bass Strait could be considered overseas (many mainlanders still say it anyway).
I lived there for near on 4 yrs and what a beautiful place to live ...if you can handle a slowwwwwwer life.Being a Melb girl i'm used to city and i got a shock how different ppl /pace is ..Awesome to go retire ,raise a family, many young ppl leave tassie due to poor employment opps.
Hastings is a place i would recommend,it's like something out of a fairy glades...hot mineral springs,rainforest...unspoiled by virtually anything modern/man made.
LOL i know in Tassie a place called baghdad,can assure u it's v safe .
I holidayed to NZ also, that was another place i'm glad i have seen.2 islands very different to the other,i thought south reminded me of UK and parts of Australia, north was amazing, the maori ppl so friendly.
Rugged and pretty, vast and varied for such small places on the map ehhh??ps nz in summer can still be cold, lol.
Enjoy,now i'm green with envy.♥

Gold COAST - fantasitic waves, great nighlife, amusement parks - never bored.

Thargomindah - True blue aussie outback town. Very friendly

Darwin - Hot weather, wildlife, great night life, feels more like a country town then a city.
