I'm a senior in high school and I live in Houston. I want to go to UT but I wasn't accepted. I was offered the CAP agreement, which means I can attend another U of ___ school for a year and be automatically accepted to UT. Well I'd have to go to UT San Antonio. I don't have a place to live there, and it's pretty expensive for tuition too. My other option is going to Austin Community College which I know a lot of people transfer from, and it would be much cheaper. I also have a place to live in Austin (with my brother), but ACC is not a guaranteed acceptance. I'm just not sure whether to go to UTSA and get into UT and spend a lot more money, or take my chances going to ACC. Any suggestions?

Trust me you have a better chance at getting into ACC. Plus going to a community college will give you a chance to raise your GPA and its a lot less tuition. If you did decide to apply for financial aid and you qualify then you got it made. All you have to do is pay for your books. Then when you transfer to a 4 year university you'll have the grades to back up your enrollment. I speak from experience sweetheart. I wish I had of went to a community college first then transfer to a 4 year university. I wouldn't be in so much debt now if I had of done that. Good luck!

I think it depends on how hard you want to work in school. I mean, if you feel like there's a good chance you wouldn't be accepted to UT after doing a year or two at ACC (ie, your grades aren't good), then it seems like the UTSA route would be the best/only option to be accepted into UT.
But honestly, if your grades at ACC are pretty decent, especially if you go for two years and get your Associate's Degree, you'd probably have a pretty good chance at getting accepted into UT. Universities like transfer students because they are generally serious students and have high graduation rates. Plus you'd be more comfortable living in Austin, and probably would be able to transition to college life easier. And you'd save a lot of money. |
