i am a high school junior, i have an overall G.P.A of 3.04, i have been involved in track and field for 2 years now, i am recently working a part time job. my ACT score is not so good, 16, i havent done any voluntary work and community service. do i have any chance of getting into UT at Austin?.....what do i need to do to be able to meet the requirements. And secondly is it a good school for neurology/ neurosurgery?

It is a highly selective school. With that GPA it will be tough - perhaps so tough it may not even be worth applying.
And yes it is a good school. But schools don't teach neurology/ neurosurgery - it is done as residency: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Residency_(medicine) Thanks Bill |

Are you a Texas resident? Are you in the top 10%? In Texas, we have something called the 10% Rule. It allows our children in the top 10% guaranteed admission. It's under litigation right now though, so whether it will continue remains uncertain.
I have heard of programs which allow students to go to another Texas state university, like UTSA, first and "prove" themselves. Then they are accepted at UT Austin. I don't know much about that option but it could be worth looking into. The first year is pretty much filled with core courses anyway. Call the admissions office and talk to them. We are very friendly here in Texas and it has been my experience that our university personnel are very helpful. |
